Race Night – April 2014
Low ResOnce again the annual Race Night proved a popular event with some 70 people from Glatton and surrounding villages supporting the event. Everyone very much enjoyed their Fish & Chip Supper from award winning “The Fishy Business” of Dogsthorpe, Peterborough.
The event raised circa £900, which will be used to help renovate the Village Hall, specifically you may have already noticed the new guttering on the outside, with electrical and decorating work planned for the inside over the coming months.
Thanks to the organisers, a great evening was had by all!

Santa’s Visit to Glatton – 2013

The scene was set for Santa’s visit to Glatton on Saturday 14th of December. A band of helpers prepared a grotto fit for Father Christmas with virtually a forest of conifers surrounding a comfortable and colourful grotto that the big man himself would feel at home in. Then, just as the sun set behind St Nicholas’ church, some 30 children (and almost as many very excited adults!), called loudly to help Santa find his way to the Village Hall. The children had been patiently waiting for the big moment by colouring pictures and getting their faces painted whilst the adults sipped mulled wine and demolished a small mountain of mince pies. Then Santa arrived and gave each of the children a good listening to!!! He passed out presents before bidding his farewell, got back on his sleigh and headed off to his next appointment and a much needed rest before the big day next week.

The event was a great success and was entirely attributable to the efforts of the Village Hall Committee and a few others. A special thanks to Russ and all those at Tillson Autos for prepping and guiding the sleigh, to Bob Widd who co-ordinated the event and felled and transported the “forest”, to Deb Widd for a lovely food (and “fairy dust”) stall, to Heather Mayston who made a fetching “Mrs Christmas” and of course, most importantly of all, to Derek Leadbetter for you know what!!!!

Race Night Winners

Race night was a winner!
A fantastic evening was had by all at the recent Race Night at the Glatton Village Hall.  With over 50 participants, the atmosphere for the eight races was really exciting, with everyone cheering on their selections. There were lots of winners on the night, with payouts from £3 – £17. The horses for the last race were auctioned on the night, and these 8 horses raised over £344.00. The owners of the winning horse won a staggering £172, but they kindly donated their winnings to the Village Hall. A big thanks to the winning team from all of us on the Committee. Well done to all those who won, and to those who didn’t, we hope you still enjoyed the night and had a good time. In total, we raised over £1,100 on the night, which exceeded our expectations, so thanks to everyone who attended.
